Globally significant populations of sea turtles that live in the Northwest of Australia face immediate threats from industrial development and need the world's attention. Vibrant with red rock, white beaches and turquoise seas, this little-known and sparsely civilized corner of Australia is home to flatbacks, greens, loggerheads, hawksbills, olive ridleys and the mysterious leatherback. All except the leatherback nest on islands and beaches of the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. All six species are in danger of extinction and are protected by State, Commonwealth and International laws and treaties.
