Congress Urged to Increase TEDs Enforcement and End Gulf Sea Turtle Deaths

May 12th, 2011

Over one hundred members and supporters have joined the staff of the Sea Turtle Restoration Project in calling on Congress to help endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico currently under assault from deadly shrimp trawl fisheries.

Our efforts continue to focus on the Chair of the Congressional Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries and Coast Guard, the honorable Mark Begich. Equally as important, we continue to communicate our concerns to our local senators in both California and Texas offices.

Click here to download our most recent letter to Senator Mark Begich which details the horrific record strandings of dead sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico, the lack of any new protections for sea turtles in the Gulf since the historic BP oil spill, and a call for immediate action to ensure Turtle Excluder Devices are properly enforced on all shrimp trawls.
