Victory Video! Plastic Bag Ban Passes in Marin County

January 28th, 2011

The Marin County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pass a ban on free one-use plastic bag distribution at grocery stores and large retail outlets throughout unincorporated Marin County. Our Bag the Plastics campaign has supported this action for over three years, first by convincing local stores to reduce plastic bags and now through consistent testimony at the four public hearings for the Marin County ban. The law goes in to effect in 2012, giving our volunteers and interns a year to help with outreach to local stores.

We have sent letters of support and volunteer supporters to plastic bag ban hearings all over the state of California! Local efforts have grown exponentially after the 2010 state-wide legislation was voted down in Sacramento thanks to heavy lobbying and financial buy-outs from the plastics industry supporters.Think global, act local!
