Seven year old Shane Molander of Marshfield, Massachussetts was heartbroken when he saw the TV reports of oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico after the BP oil spill disaster. He had always loved the ocean and the wildlife in it. He brainstormed with his dad and came up with the idea of selling rubber bracelets that say "Save the Gulf" on them. He has sold several hundred of them and donated $250 to the Sea Turtle Restoration Project, one of the wildlife rescue organizations he has chosen to support with the proceeds of his sales. He has also been a vocal activist in his first-grade classroom, telling all his classmates about the spill and its disastrous effects on wildlife in the region. See the article about Shane in Marshfield's local paper.
Thank you, Shane!
