Heather Porrill is the owner of Star Bright Farm in Bay Tree, Alberta, Canada where she and her family operate a candy company. When she heard about our Earth Day program calling for volunteers to help the sea turtles, Heather got busy right away making Leatherback sea turtle candies that she named Star Bright Leatherbacks. They were a big hit at the Hines Creek trade show, where she sampled them out, and she received enough donations to adopt two sea turtle nests with STRP's Adopt A Nest program. “Our Leatherbacks are made from our exceptional handmade Buttery Bites caramel, pecans, pretzels, dark chocolate and coarse sea salt. They are absolutely delicious.”
“We are a very small company and we hope that one day we can forward some more funds on to the Sea Turtle Restoration Project. We will be making more of our Leatherbacks for the Christmas craft sale season. Until then we will share with all our prairie agricultural friends the Adopt A Nest program which they helped support.”
Heather’s three children, Lidea, William and Mackenzie, are shown here sampling the delectable goods. “Thank you for the creative Adopt A Nest program. It offers us inlanders a way to become involved with something most of us give no consideration to,” says Heather.
